Scar Revision – Central Plains Aesthetic Surgery

A scar revision can minimize a scar by making the skin more consistent with the surrounding tone and texture. While a scar’s appearance can be reduced, it cannot be entirely erased. Depending on your unique circumstance, there are several techniques that can be used to reduce the appearance of your scar. In some cases, there may be a need to use more than one technique.

1. For minimal scars, a simple topical treatment through gels, tapes, or external compression may be all that’s required.

2. For concave or depressed scars, an injectable treatment may be used to fill in for the missing tissue. The results for injections may be temporary and need to be repeated.

3. Surface area treatments are the most common — dermabrasion, laser/light therapy, chemical peels, or skin bleaching agents are used accordingly to soften surface irregularities and reduce uneven pigmentation.

4. For deeper scars, surgery or advanced techniques may be required. During these procedures, scars can be slightly repositioned to make less conspicuous or to increase skin flexibility. In the cases of burns, other skin or pharmaceutical tissues can be used to improve the appearance and elasticity of a scar.

After your procedure, you may experience discoloration or discomfort for one to two weeks. Over time, however, your results will slowly refine and the scar will fade. Furthermore, your results will be long-lasting once complete healing has been achieved. Dr. Atchison will provide all the details necessary to determine which technique is appropriate and if this procedure is right for you.
